Common questions about TEF Canada and CLB
Which TEF Canada score should I enter?
- Use the old score equivalence printed on your results, where listening goes up to 360, reading up to 300, and writing and speaking up to 450. The score out of 699 is not the one the equivalency chart uses.
What TEF Canada score is NCLC 7?
- NCLC 7 needs 249 in listening, 207 in reading, 310 in writing and 310 in speaking.
Do French test results earn extra points?
- Yes. NCLC 7 or higher in all four French skills adds 25 points to your CRS score. If you also have CLB 5 or higher in all four English skills, the bonus is 50 points. These are on top of the regular first or second language points.
How are TEF Canada scores counted as a second language?
- If English is your first official language, your French results count as your second. Each skill earns 1 point at NCLC 5 or 6, 3 points at NCLC 7 or 8 and 6 points at NCLC 9 or higher, capped at 24 points in total, or 22 if you apply with a spouse or partner.
